Studioamano sowed a wildflower garden for one of our Devon projects. This spring it has re-appeared in all its wonderful glory.

Why not say 'no' to the mower and create a beautiful wildflower meadow garden. Once it's established it's easy to manintain and will bring you an explosion of colourful blooms, year after year.

Here's how to create it using a wildflower seed mix.

1

Scratch over and remove the top of the existing grass areas to reveal as much soil as possible, remove the grass cuttings to avoid the nutrients returning to the soil.

2

Broadcast the wildflower seeds evenly over the exposed soil. We used a Suttons Wildflower Mix, suitable for the soil in this area of Devon, and tread in the ares to make sure the seeds have good ground contact, lightly water. We sowed them in September 2018.

3

Leave the seed to germinate. Some wildflowers require a cold frosty winter to germinate.

4

Wait for the gorgeous flowers to appear in the spring, although for some flowers it will take longer for them to establish themselves, especially if the grass has re-established itself.

5

Strim the long grass and wildflowers every late autumn after flowering, leave the strimmings on top of the meadow for a few days before raking them up and removing them, this allows the seeds to drop to the floor to re-start the process.

Instructions for your particular meadow type can be found here:

Here are some reasons why 'Making Meadows' is so beneficial to our wildlife and to our environment:
